We have three grown up children and lots of animals to look after! In our spare time we love to do gardening and there are always new projects. One of our greatest achievements was when we moved here, lived in a mobile home and built this house.
We have lived at Fernwood since 2005 and in Ringwood since 1990 so we are really happy to help with places to visit. We also love to hear about your days out and meals out you have enjoyed as this will enable us to share this with other guests. We enjoy walking and cycling in the New Forest and can show you places to visit on the Ordnance Survey map.
We are both from the New Forest and have found it a fantastic place to bring up our own children. Ringwood seems to have the best of both worlds, with town facilities and yet having beaches and the New Forest on our doorstep.
A few years ago, Rachel finished walking the South West Coastal Path with her friend Jo - 630 miles of sea views, cream teas and nights away in Bed & Breakfast accommodation. In fact, it was the nights in a gypsy caravan and a yurt (with compost toilet) that really got Rachel started on setting up Fernwood Glamping.
Our children are becoming more independent and we are now enjoying going to music festivals. Jonathan also has a few chameleons. He is a member of a local drama group where he can be seen in a variety of characters and roles!
We have always valued holidays as a family and spent many years in tents in Devon, Cornwall and France. As our children have got older, we have travelled further to Australia, Malaysia, Equador and Namibia. Nothing beats the open space and freedom of a camping / glamping holiday!
Jonathan and I love to meet visitors from other countries and other parts of England. We enjoy travelling a lot ourselves and still feel there is a lot of the world to explore.
Rachel & Jonathan
Fernwood Glamping is a very small family run business with a gypsy
van and a shepherd's hut, over 25 metres apart.
After the restrictions set in place this spring, we feel Fernwood Glamping can offer a much needed escape from the city with a peaceful garden, ideal for walking and cycling in the beautiful New Forest- a perfect spot for two couples or families to book together where they wish to socialise with a limited number of people.
We are currently unable to offer showering facilities. We will also be offering separate toilet facilities: the gypsy van will use the flushable toilet and the shepherd’s hut will use the compost toilet (with water, soap and hand sanitiser available. We are hoping to set up a simple outdoor solar shower for more adventurous guests staying in the shepherds hut!
For the time being, the summer house will be used by the gypsy van only (being a smaller accommodation unit and closer to the pond). We have therefore added a mini-fridge (15 litre / 12 cans capacity) and a small kettle to the shepherd's hut. If the gypsy van is unoccupied, the summer house may be used by the shepherd's hut guests.
